I’m going to try to keep this as spoiler free as possible 🙂
The Crown’s game by Evelyn Skye follows Vika and Nikolai, who are chosen to compete in The Crown’s Game to be the tsar’s Imperial Enchanter (or as I like to call it his magic dude). We also follow Pasha, who is Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the Russian kingdom.
I really enjoyed the historical aspects of this book. It gave it an educational value as well as tons of enjoyment and action.
Out of the three main character Vika was probably my least favorite, not that I didn’t like her, just if I had to choose a least favorite I would choose her. She’s a fun character.
Nikolai was a more complex character than Vika, not super complex, but he had more of a long and depressing back story than the other two. He was very serious, but still very fun to read about.
Then there’s Pasha. I love Pasha. He is my baby. He’s definitely the comedic relief of the book. He’s just awesome and the best and I love him.
Out of all the characters my least favorite was definitely Yulianna. She is Pasha’s sister and she is a complete brat. She doesn’t like that Pasha is kind and loving and just awesome (she’s probably jealous) and she just got on my nerves constantly. She was always trying to control the situation and if it wasn’t for her the ending would have been so much different.
So the ending. It was very sad, I cried a lot. Going into this I guess I kind of knew something like that would happen, but I kept hoping that it wouldn’t. I really wanted everything to turn out okay, but there is another book after this one so I guess it still has time to back these at least a little better.
Overall I gave this a 4.5/5. If you enjoy fantasy and/or historical fiction than you might enjoy The Crown’s Game.
